TEXCOTE COOLWALL® FAQ

Home/TEXCOTE COOLWALL® FAQ
TEXCOTE COOLWALL® FAQ2021-03-08T18:10:36-08:00
What’s the difference between COOLWALL® and regular paint?2020-11-18T12:31:37-08:00

There are many differences between the two! COOLWALL® is, on average, ten times thicker than regular paint and contains infrared heat reflective pigments. Regular paint doesn’t reflect heat and typically needs to be repainted every 5-10 years. With COOLWALL®, reflecting infrared heat allows your home’s interior to be cooler, and it’s long-lasting, so you don’t need to repaint it!

How does COOLWALL® compare to coatings claiming to be “ceramic”?2020-11-16T11:42:35-08:00

“Ceramic” coatings are actually ordinary coatings that have small ceramic spheres added to them. Even though they’re applied heavier than regular paint, they still aren’t thick enough to effectively insulate your home. The Federal Trade Commission and the Department of Energy have debunked the claims of these ceramic coatings.

What effect does COOLWALL® have on previously painted projects that you’re going to restore with COOLWALL®?2020-11-16T11:42:35-08:00

It will have very little to no effect. COOLWALL® will be the same whether it’s applied to existing paint, existing coating film, or applied to a surface that has never been painted or coated before.

What are the three DELTA (Δ) values of fade?2020-11-16T11:42:35-08:00

A color difference of 1 DELTA (Δ) value is where the color fading becomes noticeable to the average person’s eye. A color difference of 3 DELTA (Δ) values is where the color fading is noticeable by most people.

How does COOLWALL® relate to a Wall System “R” Rating?2020-11-16T11:42:35-08:00

The R-value describes the effectiveness of insulating materials. Because COOLWALL® does not work by an insulation process, it doesn’t have an R-value. Instead, it works by reflecting the sun’s infrared energy, so the wall doesn’t get as hot in the first place. This reduces the amount of heat that insulation materials, like fiberglass, have to keep out. By reflecting solar heat, COOLWALL® is both reducing surface temperatures and your energy bill!

How does COOLWALL® reflect heat without changing color?2020-11-16T11:42:35-08:00

The COOLWALL® system keeps surfaces cool by reflecting a large majority of the non-visible portion of the spectrum. This leaves the color relatively unaffected.

Can I save money with COOLWALL®?2020-11-16T11:42:35-08:00

Yes, you can. The U.S. Department of Energy’s Oak Ridge National Laboratory has tested COOLWALL® and found it to reduce cooling costs by up to 21.9%. They found savings range from 4.2%-21.9% depending on factors such as geographic location, climate, color, etc. Visit Tex-Cote’s website to learn more.

How long does COOLWALL® last?2020-11-16T11:42:36-08:00

Your COOLWALL® System is designed to last a lifetime!

Is COOLWALL® only available in a couple of color choices?2020-11-16T11:42:36-08:00

There is a wide range of colors available for the COOLWALL® System. There are over 952 vibrant colors to choose from, to help you color-match your home, commercial building, or structure.

What is the recoating procedure?2020-11-16T11:42:36-08:00

The recoating procedure works in three steps:

  1. The process begins with a clean and sound surface
  2. If recoating with the same color, no primer is needed
  3. If recoated with a different color, a COOLWALL® primer and finish may be necessary
How does COOLWALL® work?2020-11-16T11:42:36-08:00

COOLWALL® uses the same heat-reflective technology used by the military to reduce solar heat on their planes and vehicles. It’s formulated to reflect solar heat by changing the non-visible portion of the light spectrum.
